What is vector graphic and where it is used?

Vector graphics is the use of computer and mathematics on simple image and remake it. The Wiki definition of vector graphics is : "Vector graphics is the use of geometrical primitives such as points, lines, curves, and shapes or polygon(s), which are all based on mathematical equations, to represent images in computer graphics."
As per that definition vector graphics is mainly done by use of sequence of computer commands or mathematical statements. These commands place lines and shapes in a given two dimensional or three dimensional spaces. In vector graphics creation, the final result of graphics is saved as a sequence of vector statements. The final graphics file represents a series of points to be connected instead of bits.
Vector images are more flexible then bit maps because they can be resized and stretched as much as you want. There would not be any difference in quality when you stretch the image. The vector image looks good on high resolution device while other images look always same regardless of device resolution.
The difference between vector graphics and normal images
1. Vector are more flexible because they can be resized from high resolution to low resolution and vice a verse without loosing quality on other hand bitmaps loose quality if you resize it more. 2. Bitmap has to be rectangle while vector can contain curve and other shapes like polygons. 3. bitmap contain pixels while vector images contain individual objects
Advantages of bitmaps - easy to create - you can take picture with digital camera or scan it from scanner - cost effective Disadvantages of bitmaps - not upward scalable - Can be made smaller without loosing quality but cannot be made larger. You lose quality if try to resize it to make bigger.
Advantages of Vector - Vector Images are scalable - Never loose quality with resizing
Disadvantage of Vector - very expensive to create - you cannot take photograph in vector
Where is vector graphics used?
Vector graphics is used in many areas such as sign makers use our service to increase the resize facility. As they might need to put the sign on bus and they have very small size of the image. So in this case you need vector the image.
There are many other sectors where vector images are used:
Following are few examples:  Sophisticated graphics system  CAD  Animation  Vector fonts  Scalable fonts,  Object oriented fonts  Outline fonts  Sign Makers  Promotional Product manufacturers  Decal Makers  Plaque Makers  Web Designers  Game Developers  Badge Makers  Digital Embroiderers  Vinyl Cutters  Printers & Publishers  Illustrators  Clip Art creators  Laser Engravers  Advertising Agencies
